William Shatner
William Shatner is best known for his role
as Captain James T. Kirk on the Star Trek series and films. He now writes all those
TekWar books and has some cameo appearances in various films.
William was born on March 22, 1931, in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. He studied business at McGill
University for a while and intended to join his family's garment firm but soon decided to
follow his passion: acting.
Shatner made his feature film debut as one of The Brothers Karamazov in a 1958 film
version starring Yul Brynner.
After turning in his first big-screen lead performance in the drama The Explosive
Generation (1961), Shatner moved to New York City and began working on projects in
television.
He starred as an assistant district attorney in the short-lived drama series For the
People (1965) before landing the role that would make him famous: the self-assured Captain
James Tiberius Kirk on the science fiction TV series Star Trek (1966-69).
Several of his novels were made into television movies and a series, in which Shatner
starred and which he also directed.
In the late 1990s, the tireless Shatner made news again for his quirky appearances in a
series of high-profile television commercials for the Internet company Priceline.com.
His most recent feature film role was a supporting turn as a beauty pageant official in
the comedy Miss Congeniality (2000), costarring Sandra Bullock, Benjamin Bratt, Michael
Caine, and Candice Bergen.Shatner has three daughters, Leslie, Lisabeth, and Melanie, from
his first marriage, to Gloria Rand; a 20-year union to the actress Marcy Lafferty ended in
1996. Shatner married his fourth wife, horse trainer Elizabeth Martin, on February 13,
2001.
