Born Michael Andrew Fox, June 9, 1961 in Edmonton,
Alberta; son of Bill Fox (an army officer) d. 1990, and Phyllis (a
secretary and payroll clerk); Michael is the fourth of five children and
his sister, Kelli, is also an actress in Vancouver; married actress
Tracy Pollan in 1988; children: Sam, Schuyler, Aquinnah. Education:
dropped out of high school but received private instruction.

Career
Made his professional debut in 1976 at the age of
15 in a CBC series called Leo and Me; moved to Los Angeles in 1979; had
a role in a short-lived series called Palmerstown U.S.A. before landing
the part of Alex P. Keaton on Family Ties in 1982; while still filming
Family Ties began starring in a string of successful film comedies
beginning with Back to the Future in 1985; featured in a huge commercial
endorsement for Diet Pepsi in 1988; Family Ties ended in 1989 after 176
episodes; returned to TV sitcom land with a new series, Spin City, 1996.
Other television appearances include one episode of Night Court, 1984;
and made-for-TV movies and specials including Letters From Frank, 1979;
High School U.S.A., 1983; Family Ties Vacation, 1985; Poison Ivy, 1985;
Dear America, Letters Home From Vietnam, 1987; Don't Drink the Water,
1994; I Am Your Child, 1997. Other film appearances include Midnight
