Money, Its Benefits, & Why People Are Always Thirsty For More

Why is money so important to some people? Why does everyone always want more, or what they can’t have? What is it about those little coloured bills that can turn people against each other? According to some, money is everything. It’s what buys you all the right clothes. It’s what helps you to meet all the right people, and gets you into all the right organizations. What I want to know is, what is so darn fascinating about fitting in all the time? Why do some people spend there whole lives trying to fit in, when they’re born to stand out.

First of all, to a lot of people, money means power. If you have no money, then you have no power; and let’s face it, nobody likes that. Now, I’m not going to say that all women are shallow, but let’s get real. When faced with that famous situation, either the really cute and nice funny guy, or the gorgeous and fabulously wealthy one; most of us sadly, would go for the money. It’s almost as if it has been sewn into us as we’ve grown up. Money means security, it also means comfort and happiness. But is that what it should mean? You could be the richest person in the world and still be the loneliest. Money might be able to buy you things that make you happy, but it can’t buy you happiness. Happiness is a feeling, and it’s just one of those things you can’t put a price on. Money also makes people judge other people. Next time your walking downtown, think about the bums on the streets, and how people treat them for having no money. It’s pretty much what they’re doing, isn’t it? Some people ignore them; some give a few bucks or whatnot and some even laugh. You’re making a judgement based on money and the fact that they have none, so they’re forced to beg. Did you ever think that money could have been the root of their suffering? They could have struck it rich a couple years back and lived happily for a while. Then one day decided that they wanted more money, and decided to gamble or try to increase the amount in any way they could. However, slowly but surely, dollar-by-dollar, they became poor. So if you saw them 2-3 years ago, they could have looked like the cleanest cut people, with great taste in clothes. Now they probably haven’t tasted food in days. It’s sad to see what greed and money can do to a person. You think all you want is a little more than you have. Then you want more, and more, until you start to lose it, and you’re worse off then when you started. You realized your life wasn’t as bad as you thought, and you’d kill for your old life back. Before you start asking for more, think about what you already have and ask your self, is more money really that necessary to carry on.

Wanting what you can’t have, now that has been going on for longer than I can imagine. Everyone wants what he or she can’t have, we’re all human, and it comes natural. It’s hard to be happy in your dinky little apartment, when you see your friends enjoying themselves in their enormous 5-6 bedroom mansions. Think of it this way, the grass may be greener on the other side, but you still have to mow it. When you have a larger house you usually have a larger yard and that means more work has to be done to it, more cleaning, etc. You could be enjoying yourself on a weeklong cruise in the Bahamas, and your friends could be going through a nightmare just trying to clean up and manage their so-called mansions. The next time you think about how little you have, just think about the people that have less than you. There are always people who are less fortunate than you. Things can always get worse, so try not to dwell on the little things and try something that makes you happy. Happiness is what counts in life, not money, even though it might seem like it at times.

Now, we can all honestly say that we’ve thought about what it would be like to be rich and have everything we’ve always wanted. To travel the world, have a personal jet, a live-in masseuse, a staff of at least 24, etc. So what’s wrong with this picture? Everything, other than the fact that it’s extremely unlikely; unless you’re born into a wealthy family, marry rich, become rich and famous or win the lottery. Most of those fantasies however, are unlikely to come true. What is likely, is that you’ll get a job with lousy pay and no respect and one day you’ll seriously consider quitting and march right up to your boss’s office and… chicken out, because it’s the only source of income you have. So, you work hard and suck up when ever you can, and suddenly before you know it, you’re head of the company. You have so many people sucking up to you; you think your hard work has finally paid off. Now you have enough money to retire, and you’re set for life. Everything seems to be perfect, and then you look in the mirror and realize you’re over 65. Everything you had planned for your life had an age cut off of at least 45. So now, there’s nothing left to do but relax and enjoy the rest of your life and laugh at the poor suckers who remind you of you at your age and think, they’re going to be here in a couple of years. If what you just read seems a bit surreal, it’s not. Some people actually think that way, and actually think life stops around 65. They think you’re old; you can’t do as much, you have nothing to life for, etc. They obviously have not read the Guinness book. Some people live to be 123 years old. If that were the case you’d still have 58 years left. You would have only lived a little over half of your life. Unfortunately, we don’t all live to be that old, so appreciate what you have now before it’s gone.

In conclusion, if you worry about money your whole life, you won’t live your life to the fullest. You’ll always be worried if people are making more than you, if they’re judging you, etc. You just have to work with what you have. Start from the bottom and build up. For some people it will happen, and for some it won’t, but that’s not a good enough reason to stop trying is it? Don’t worry about what other’s have. If you think more money will make your life better, then go out there and work for it. In the end, it will make it all worthwhile and you’ll appreciate it more, then if you just won a sack full of money.
