Allende's House of Spirits: My Favourite Book
Although reading is not one of my many joys in life
when I do read I tend to really enjoy novels with mystery and suspense
but not too much to were the book becomes almost impossible to figure
out.
While in my last year
of high School I attended an International Baccalaureate English course
manly focusing on Literature. One book which I really enjoyed was “The
House of Spirits” by Isabel Allende.
It is a book of mystery and
suspense portraying the clash of two families whose class, culture and
religion keep them apart. It is mysterious in the way that characters
in the book are thought to have magical psychic powers and the ability
to see the dead.
I really enjoyed reading this book because it
had a certain style to it. Isabel Allende writes in a way not where you
read and find it almost impossible to understand it but in a way where
it keeps you focused and wanting to read on. It’s almost like you are
there and want to see what is going to happen next. Allende use of
description such as the suspense of some one raping his peasant workers
and also beat his child and wife. This interest me because Allende
style of writing make your imagination go wild and makes you feel like
you are there as it happens which gives you the will to want to read
on.
To conclude, “The house of Spirits” by Isabel
Allende has become one my favorite books because the style in which
Allende writes and the ability which she has to be able to make a reader
become one with the book. That is my reason on why I think this book
has been such a joy to read because my enjoyment of mystery is caught by
the authors style of writing.
