Countess
Elizabeth Bathory
Countess Elizabeth Bathory was a Hungarian
countess in late 16th and early century who is reputed to have
tortured and killed many girls and young women.
Elizabeth's murders were soon discovered but
because she was a countess she was not executed and was only
kept under house arrest in her castle. However, Bathory's
collaborators were all arrested and mostly executed. Countess
Báthory died in her castle on August 21, 1614.
The case of Countess Elizabeth Bathory has
been the inspiration for numerous movies and books.
Three different movies are in progress in 2007
on Elizabeth.
