How to Succeed in College

Okay, so you’re nervous. That is normal everyone gets those “first day of school jitters” even adults. You feel that as an adult you should be ready to take on anything and college should be easy for you. In reality college scares you. College may seem stressful but as long as you’re willing to listen, wokr hard and cooperate you should be as ready as possible for the first day.

Listening is the key word to sucess. I dont only mean listen to you teachers i mean listen to everyone, your peers, your surrounding etc... your teachers are there to guide you through a new learning expereince. They are the ones with all the information you need to fly by and achieve your goals.not only are you teachers there to help you, but you fellow classmates are also present. Your peers can be there to lend a hand in any situation. If you happen to not understand the material provided an other student is usually willing to explain it. School is give and take kind of place, you take in what you need and you give it all you can to ensure the most amount of sucess possible. It was once said to me by my grade 10 principal that 80% of sucess if merly showing up. I realized this had some truth to it because as long as you show up it is forced upon you to learn at least a little bit. You are surrounded with tools to learn all you have to do is listen and use those tools to your own personal advantage.

When you’re ready to work and give a little bit of effort then you’re ready and prepared for anything. When you step through the door each day with the willingness to work hard then you are saying “I am not afraid”. Nothing would be accomplished in life if no one made the efforts to accomplish them. Having this aditude proves to your teachers as well as your peers that you understand the task and you know it is possible. Nothing in life is easy, therefore why would college be any different? You managed to make it this far in your academic career all you have to do now is continue. The only difference here now is that you as the student are paying for this. High school was a breeze. You didn’t stress as much because the education was free. Now in college you are faced with the fact that if you fail it is hundreds or even thousands of dollars wasted. You wouldn’t you want to cooperate?

Cooperation, a key to all essentials in life as well as the key to sucess in every domain. If you chose to coperate you are on the right path my friend. When you walk into a classroom with this positive perspective nothing can stop you. A teacher needs all his students to cooperate in order to teach. And students need equal cooperation from the teacher. If every one is taking on their own responsibility then the classroom is filled with a willingness to learn and achieve great things. Cooperating with you peers means that you are saying to them, I am ready to help you because you are ready to help me. When there is group work to be done it means every one participates accordingly and follows the directions given. When all students have different skills and can put them all together a classroom runs more smoothly and more work and progress is achieved.

Sucess is ensured and acheived by these three life skills: hard work, cooperation and clean ears! When you step into that classroom on the first day those jitters will soon be gone. You will be worry free because you know you have the motivation it takes.
