London. A city filled with history, diversity and people with awesome accents. London is one of the fashion capitals of the world; home to the Hollywood elite; covered with landmarks and famous places, and was the first city to introduce underground travel.

London is only about 621 square miles, but has the highest population density in Europe, with nearly 5 thousand people per square kilometer. All of those inhabitants account for 14% of Britain’s overall population. Also, with so many citizens, there are over 250 different languages spoken in London, making it the most linguistically diverse city in the world. Not only is London richly multicultural, but also it is also rich with history.

It all began with the Romans in their invasion of Britain in AD43. Since then, London has evolved throughout the ages, creating history and making legends out of her citizens. For centuries, kings and queens have left their mark upon London – building landmarks such as the Tower of London, Buckingham Palace, the Houses of Parliament and St Paul’s Cathedral. Modern inventors have created more contemporary attractions, like the BA London Eye and Madame Tussauds, keeping London filled with tourists eager to get a glimpse of these famous sights. There have been many famous Londoners throughout history, including William Shakespeare, Sir Christopher Wren, Charlie Chaplin, Karl Marx and the Spice Girls, just to name a few, and many more people call London home. It’s because of the fast-paced lifestyle that keeps them here.

The Tube is one of the most recognizable fixtures in London. This subway system has been around for ages and was used as a giant bomb shelter during the world wars. The red and white trains get you anywhere in the city in a matter of minutes, and run until the wee hours of the morning. They’ll take you to Piccadilly Circus, famous for it’s giant Coca-Cola sign that reacts by changing color when you wave at it; and stops at Oxford Circus and Covent Garden are on any fashion-lovers list. It was Samuel Johnson who put it best:

"Why, Sir, you find no man, at all intellectual, who is willing to leave London. No, Sir, when a man is tired of London, he is tired of life; for there is in London all that life can afford."
