Hum Tum – My favorite movie

Not very long ago, there was famous movie released named Hum Tum (meaning you and I) in the world of Hindi cinema – Bollywood.  Being able to fluently speak and understand my mother-tongue, I indulged myself into the saga of two enemies and lovers.
The movie speaks for the new generation and how the ‘guys’ and the ‘girls’ react to each others thoughts and feelings.  The story is of two strangers who are enemies at first and then lovers.  This follows the plot of any typical movie in Bollywood.  However, the interesting twists and turns in the movie reveal the culture and tradition of Indian people.  I like Hum Tum due to several reasons.  Firstly, because my favorite actor (Saif Ali Khan) is playing the leading role in comedy movies, and I tend to prefer comedy films over romantic or action movies.  Secondly, the behavior and attitude played by the actress (Rani Mukherjee) is of a typical girl and I can relate my personal experiences to that of hers.  Thus, I see a connection between her life and mine.

The Introduction to the story is done by showing the lifestyles of the two different characters played by Rani and Saif.   Rani’s personality is very typical of a girl; she is very punctual and wants to do everything right in the first instance.  However, Saif plays the opposite role and he is very careless and doesn’t care about people’s feelings at all.  They both hate each other and meet by coincidence at times.  When Rani gets married, Saif starts to give her some respect and even helps her out with the marriage arrangements.  They don’t meet for at least three years.  Another coincidental meeting leads Saif into realizing that Rani’s husband has expired and he feels sympathetic towards her.  Later on in the movie, the actors realize that they are in love, the theory being that “opposites attract”.  Thus, they marry each other and live happily ever after.

The songs in this movie are meaningful and pleasing as well.  This movie was a big hit all over India and attracted the younger generation mainly.  This movie had a good plot and a script that was presented in an interesting manner.
