My Favourite Actor
Entertaining is the job of an
actor. If they don’t do it well enough then they end up
unemployed. Different people find different actors entertaining.
Just because one person finds Richard Dean Anderson entertaining
doesn’t mean that someone else does. They may even find him
extremely annoying. I however like Richard Dean Anderson (RDA
for short). I find him very entertaining. He has been in many TV
shows and movies. He is well known for his role as MacGyver in
the show of the same name. In my personal favourite, Stargate
SG1, he starts off as a US Air Force Colonel, in Season Eight he
is promoted to Brigadier General.
In his role on Stargate he is hilarious.
Anderson’s portrayal of Jack is amazing. Jack O’Neill is, let’s
just say...he’s not the brightest light bulb in the box. I’m not
sure that any other actor could portray O’Neill quite like
Anderson. He’s funny and charming and when he states the
obvious, it always sends me into fits of laughter. I’d say most
of the entertainment I get from his portrayal of O’Neill comes
from the fact that Jack is not quite bright. He also has a way
of trying not to look stupid by deferring to his smarter
colleagues. This could just be the way the character is, but
it’s funny every time.
This year Anderson has semi-retired. He’s
still going to make appearances on the show but he won’t be the
main attraction. He’s taking more time off this year because he
wants to spend more time with his children. While I admire and
respect that, the show will not be the same without him in a
starring role. This week was the season premiere; unfortunately
I couldn’t watch it because I don’t get the channel. So I can’t
say what the show is like without him.
Richard Dean Anderson is a funny and charming
guy. He obviously loves Stargate, the fact that he has stayed
with them the entire eight seasons they’ve been on the air is
evidence of this. The fact that he is relinquishing his starring
role just to spend time with his children means that he is also
a good father. These are the reasons that I like Richard Dean
Anderson so much.
